Hole 3 | "Blaw Wearie"

Par 4 | 489 Yards

Blaw Wearie, literally translated, means "Out of Breath," and this may well be the case as the prevailing wind customarily blows into the face of golfers. This long par 4 will require two good shots to find the green in regulation and a par is always a good score.

Perfect Play

003 Ailsa
One of the toughest par 4's on the golf course and a hole that usually plays back into the prevailing wind. A driver would be the choice for this tee shot but you must miss the two fairway bunkers on the left and the finishing uneven rough on the right. A good tee shot on this hole, finding the fairway, will leave a 2nd shot of some 170 yards. Under normal conditions I would hit a 5 iron into this green that is guarded by two bunkers on the right hand side. The green is deceptively long and slopes from front to back which must be taken into account as the approach shot will release down this putting surface. The edges of the green have a lot of subtle slopes; this makes the best chance of holing a birdie putt from the centre of the green.
